PSI helps discover 2 new chemical elements
For the first time a Swiss research group has participated in the discovery of new chemical elements. The elements have the numbers 113 and 115 and were discovered by a combination of physical and chemical techniques in the Russian nuclear research centre in Dubna. With its radiochemical expertise the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) was central to the experiment's success.

Maglev : after the train, the elevator in Tokyo
According to an AP press release : « Elevators controlled by magnetic levitation are set to debut as early as 2008 (…). Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Corp. said the elevators would be the first in the world to employ magnetic levitation a technology (…) of magnetic attraction and repulsion. Maglev technology has already been used to develop high-speed trains. The only passenger-carrying maglev train in the world links Pudong International Airport in Shanghai to the city center at up to 267 miles per hour ... ».
