Awards and achievements


PhD thesis examination / Congratulations Petra Häfliger !
Petra Häfliger, a PhD student of Prof. Albert Furrer at PSI successfully passed her thesis examination on February 9, 2006 at ETHZ. The title of her work - supported byMaNEP in Phase 1 - was Neutron Scattering Study of Complex Magnetic Properties of Strongly Correlated Electron Systems.

She also has a publication out this month in Europhysics Letters.
She will now pursue her work within the group of Prof. Hugo Keller (University of Zurich).

PhD thesis rewarded / Christian Rüegg gets the ETHZ medal
Last month we mentioned that Christian Ruëgg - a former PhD student of Prof. Albert Furrer at LNS/ETHZ and PSI - had received the 2005 ABB Prize for General Physics at the last annual SPS meeting. We learned that he also received the ETHZ Medal for excellency for his PhD thesis. The ceremony was held at ETHZ on January 27.

Christian is now making a post doc at the London University College.
