Swiss TV / Don't miss MaNEP on TSR science programme


MaNEP PhD student Céline Lichtensteiger (Triscone group in Geneva) has shot a 3-minute episode dedicated to nanotechnologies of a new series on scientific issues called "Histoires des savoirs" created by the Télévision Suisse Romande.
The 15-episodes series has been supported by Charles Kleiber, State secretary for Science and Research.

It is being broadcasted every day at 18.05 on TSR since March, 20.

MaNEP's episode will be on air on April 5.

Thesis examination / Céline Lichtensteiger (UNIGE) - April 5
Céline Lichtensteiger, a PhD student in the Jean-Marc Triscone Group at UNIGE will be passing her thesis examination (in English) on Wednesday April 5, 2006 at 10.00, auditoire A, Ecole de physique.Her work is entitled Ferroelectricity at the Nanoscale : Study of Size Effects in Lead Titanate Thin Films.
Céline also shot a science TV programme recently (read above) and has a publication out in the European Physical Journal B this month.
Job / PhD Opportunity at EPFL
A position of PhD Assistant is available at the Laboratory of Nonlinear Systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EFPL).

After taking some courses from the EPFL Doctoral School, the candidate will start a Ph.D. thesis in the field of applied superconductivity. In particular, he/she will be involved in numerical modelling of high-temperature superconductors, using and refining the modelling

techniques developed by LANOS. Some experiments will be also performed to support the numerical results.

We are looking for someone with a degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics. Good knowledge in Electromagnetism is necessary for this position.

Experience with the finite-element-method, knowledge of MATLAB, or interest in superconductivity will be an advantage of the candidates.

Remuneration according to EPFL standards.
