MaNEP 'Mobile post doc' Programme / 2 positions offered
'Mobile Postdoc'-positions for 2 young MaNEP researchers are offered, aiming at developing an original project using, and within, the MaNEP network.

This position is at the postdoc level for one year, with possible extension for another year.

MaNEP will provide your salary and some additional funding for traveling.

These positions are open to young scientists of MaNEP who would like to develop an

independent project whose goal fits in the main themes studied within MaNEP. The project has to be carried out in one (or several) of the group(s) participating to MaNEP. To apply, send a (max. 2 pages) description of your project, your CV and publication list. Indicate in

your proposal where and in which MaNEP group you will mainly carry out your research and join to your proposal a letter of the MaNEP group leader stating that he is ready to have you working in his/her laboratories.

Send your proposal to : Isabelle Bretton by mail.

Deadline for the submissions is June 10, 2006 (extended deadline).

Laboratory for Neutron Scattering at PSI / PhD position offered
The Paul Scherrer Institut is a centre for multi-disciplinary research and one of the world's leading user laboratories. It belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss ETH domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and material sciences, elemen-tary particle and astrophysics, energy and environmental research as well as on biology and medi-cine.

The Laboratory for Neutron Scattering is looking for a

Thesis Student (PhD position)

Your tasks
The successful candidate is expected to participate in a new project in ferroelectrics.
The project aims at studying critical properties of relaxors, classical ferroelectrics and quantum paraelectrics.

The PhD thesis will include measurements of the low-frequency atomic dynamics in these materials with triple-axis neutron spectroscopy with and without application of an external electric field. The experiments will be performed at the Swiss Neutron Spallation Source SINQ at the PSI.

It is expected that some part of the experiments will also be done at other neutron sources (ILL, Grenoble, FMR2, Munich) or with synchrotron radiation at the ESRF in Grenoble.

Your profile
This position requires a BSc

+ MSc in Physics with good knowledge in quantum mechanics.

Experience in solid state spectroscopy or diffraction with neutrons and/or X-rays would be an advantage. Programming skills (Fortran, C, Matlab) would also be useful. The candidate should be willing to work in a team environment.
