MaNEP doctoral program (Geneva): Portrait

The MaNEP doctoral program offers to the PhD students a specific training in condensed-matter physics. The program covers mainly research topics conducted in the Swiss national research network MaNEP. In the condensed-matter division (DPMC-University of Geneva), this program is a continuation of the recently renewed bachelor and master programs. The list of thesis advisors gives a glimpse at the main research activities carried in DPMC.

The doctoral program extends over the first three years of the thesis. It provides the PhD students with the basic knowledge necessary to carry on their research activities in the area of condensed-matter physics. A special effort is dedicated to describe the links between theory and experiment. The doctoral school is also willing to develop the scientific culture of the young researchers by encouraging them to attend optional courses from various sources. Moreover, it gives to them the possibility to request focussed lessons on topics of particular interest to them.

The doctoral program contributes to the good quality of the working conditions and to the cohesion in the research groups thanks, for instance, to a monthly seminar which brings together the PhD students and oughts to stimulate the exchanges and discussions between them. Furthermore, the doctoral school plans to develop a computer forum in which the students could find the solution to the most frequent questions, and which they could enrich with their own experiences.
