A levitating show

MaNEP partners with the artistic company Exos to stage superconductivity.

A world premier: a real artistic performance featuring superconducting levitation is being prepared and will be shortly presented to the general public. Physicists call for art to illustrate the magic of their research.

A limited public discovered a sample of this surprising show during the conference « A Quantum Leap for Telecommunications – Today and Tomorrow ». This conference was organized by three National Centres of Competence in Research MICS, QP and MaNEP within the framework of ITU Telecom World 2009. The show featured levitating objects as well as dancers carried on flying items in a thick cloud of nitrogen: an astonishing performance.

Superconductivity is characterized by the absence of electric resistance in some materials at very low temperatures. It manifests itself with a spectacular phenomenon: magnetic levitation.
