Participants

This winter school is open to all PhD students and post-docs, from Switzerland and abroad, working in the research and development of materials with novel electronic properties. The number of places is limited, and registrations will be taken in the order received. Members of the MaNEP Network benefit from a reduced registration fee, and CUSO members can get financial support.

Location

The school takes place in Saas-Fee, a beautiful village located at 1800 meters in the Canton of Valais, and surrounded by a fantastic chain of mountains culminating above 4000 meters. Vehicles are banned from the village. A large car park is available at the entrance of the village, but the daily price is high; we strongly recommend that participants use public transportation. The easiest way to reach Saas-Fee is by train to Visp or Brig, and then by postal bus to Saas-Fee. Take the bus in front of the Visp or Brig train station. Venue

On-site registration will be open on Sunday, January 18, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Sunday evening, a dinner will be served for all participants. The school will start on Monday 19, and end on Friday 23 at 2 pm.

Accommodation

The participants will be accommodated in a two-bedroom apartment close to Hotel Allalin, or in the hotel itself depending on availabilities. The lectures will be given at the Conference Center Steinmatte. To contact the hotel:

Ski day

A ski day is scheduled on Wednesday 21 in the Saas-Fee ski resort. Please be aware that the ski domain reaches the altitude of 3500 meters, and the temperature can be icy in January. Non-skiers will have the opportunity to take the Métro Alpin and have a break in the world's highest rotating restaurant. Many other activities are possible.

Registration fee

The normal registration fee is CHF 750. Members of the MaNEP Network benefit from a discount of CHF 50. The fee covers accommodation and full board in Hotel Allalin, from the evening dinner on Sunday to the lunch on Friday, a special dinner and a banquet. The ski pass is not included. The school charges are paid by MaNEP Switzerland Network. The PhD students from the CUSO member institutions pay no registration fee, and their travel expenses are reimbursed (upon presentation of a filled form and a copy of the travel documents; more information in the confirmation email).

After submitting your registration, you will receive an email with the relevant information for the payment, if appropriate. In order to validate your registration, you must make the payment at the latest by December 1st 2014, by bank transfer to:

An email of confirmation will be sent upon receipt of your payment. If you are a PhD student financed by the CUSO, your registration will be confirmed after the deadline of October 31. Please do not forget to inform us immediately if you decide to cancel your participation.
