Nicola Spaldin elected to the MaNEP Steering Committee

Professor Nicola Spaldin joins the MaNEP Network Steering Committee to replace Anke Weidenkaff who left Switzerland following her appointment as professor in materials science at the University of Stuttgart.

Prof. Spaldin is leading the Materials Theory group in the Department of Materials at ETH Zurich since 2010. She is a prominent figure in materials modelling and recipient of numerous awards and fellowships. Her team uses a combination of first-principles and phenomenological theoretical techniques to study the fundamental physics of materials. Her research is focused on the development of new theoretical methods, application of these methods to existing materials, the design of new materials with specific functionalities and subsequent synthesis of the “designer materials”.
